How to find a master link on a bike chain?

Do you want to remover your bicycle’s chain? But you didn’t find the master link of your chain. So you are in the right place. In this post, you will find how you can find a master link on your bike chain.

First, let me tell you about what’s a master link. A master link also known as quick release link is an assistant on a chain that allows the attach and disattach of a chain. It contains two outer plates that are joined together but when needed they can be removed.

You can separate a master link without a chain tool. Though a chain tool will make the work easier. But in case if you don’t have a chain tool you can separate it with your hands if you can find it.

To find a master link to you need the detect the different colors on the chain. Usually, the pin on the master link is in a different color so that can be differentiated from the rest. Usually, it can be in black instead of the rest silver or brass. It can also be silvery color in black chain.

You will find this type of master link on the SRAM chain. But if you have Shimano chain you don’t need to find a master link. Because the Shimano chain doesn’t have a master link. If you want to remove or separate the Shimano chain then you will need a chain-breaking tool to separate the link.

That’s how you can find and separate your bicycle’s chain. If you have any question please let me know in the comment section below. And if the post helps you then don’t forget to share it with your friends who can get help from it.
